When a Class Is Cancelled Because the Instructor Cannot Teach

A class may be cancelled when the instructor has an unavoidable reason. If no cancellation notice has been posted and the class has not started after 30 minutes, it is generally treated as a natural cancellation in the listed academic-year and faculty scopes. In some cases, special instructions may allow the class to begin later.

Cancellation because of an unavoidable reason

A class is cancelled when the instructor has an unavoidable reason. This rule is stated for the following scopes: the 2025 academic year at Tokyo Senju Campus in the Faculty of System Design and Engineering and the Faculty of Engineering, the 2025 academic year at Tokyo Senju Campus in the Faculty of Engineering, Second Division, and the 2026 academic year at Tokyo Senju Campus in the Faculty of Engineering and in the Faculty of Engineering, Second Division.

Natural cancellation after 30 minutes

If no cancellation notice has been posted and the instructor cannot start the class for an unavoidable reason even 30 minutes after the scheduled start time, the class is treated as cancelled. This is called a natural cancellation. The rule is stated for the 2025 academic year at Saitama Hatoyama Campus in the Faculty of Science and Technology and at Tokyo Senju Campus in the Faculty of Future Science; for the 2026 academic year at Saitama Hatoyama Campus in the Faculty of Science and Technology and at Tokyo Senju Campus in the Faculty of Future Science; and for the 2025 and 2026 academic years at Tokyo Senju Campus in the Faculty of Engineering, Second Division.

Possible delayed start after 30 minutes

For the 2025 academic year at Saitama Hatoyama Campus in the Faculty of Science and Technology, a class may still be held more than 30 minutes after its scheduled start time if special instructions permit it, even when the situation would otherwise qualify as a natural cancellation.
